How To Succeed, As An Art Major

By Danie Zolezzi

Picking a college major is probably the hardest choices anyone under 20 will have to make; second only to picking an actual university. As if it could get more stressful, you decide to make the unpopular decision of becoming an art major. Know this: you are not alone! Here are a few tricks of the trade on how to survive as an art major.

Never question your love for your craft. Despite what other people say and think, do what you love. It's not helping or hurting anyone else but you. Therefore, disregard anything negative people say; they're haters. (Bye, Felicia!)

Give your best effort. Never compare your singing, acting, painting, etc. to anyone else's ability. It may be tough to ignore the competition when you have critiques weekly, but as long as you're working hard and making small improvements, nothing and no one else matters.

Accept your failures. The only way we can grow as individuals is by learning from our mistakes. Therefore, welcome failures and critiques with open arms because it means you have an opportunity to improve and work harder to achieve your goal.

Leave no stone unturned. You may be working towards a music degree, but that does not guarantee you will become the next Beyonce. In no way does that mean you can't try! It only means that you have to make a plan B, C, and D in case plan A doesn't go the way you'd hoped. Exhaust all your resources and opportunities because how's that saying go about the eggs and putting all of them in that basket? Oh, right. It says that you don't do that.

It's only 4 years. That may sound like an eternity to someone just starting out. However, take it from someone who had no idea how quickly four years could fly by because that's exactly what they do. Your eight semesters in school will be over before you know it so enjoy it! Put your best foot forward and enjoy what may be your only time left doing what you love.

If you're in high school choosing between schools or in college choosing between majors, the choice is never easy. However, keep in mind, you are not alone. Also, if it helps you sleep at night, keep in mind that so many people go on to have successful careers after having studied art in college.- So when someone is giving you the business about your choice, just smile and nod singing your favorite show tunes to yourself and know how wrong they are.

How Culinary Students Can Make Better Coffee

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

With so many different dishes that culinary students can prepare - and there are many to consider - it seems like coffee is overlooked. Believe it or not, those who are learning how to cook can not only learn about the various flavors of coffee but how they can be made as appealing as possible. How, exactly, can these men and women improve their efforts when brewing coffee? I believe that these solutions are the best ones which stand out.

The first point to consider, when it comes to coffee, is the beans which are used. Specifically, you should try to invest in fresh beans and store them with care for the foreseeable future. Many people insist on using airtight containers, as these will help to keep the beans in question fresher for much longer. With this in mind, if you're going to prepare better coffee, it would be unwise to overlook the importance of beans and which types to go with.

There's also the matter of water quality to take into account. After all, this is a major reason why coffee is made, so why not choose water that is best suited for the job? Old water has a poor taste, to say the least, so you can imagine that the utilization of such a product can lead to a lower level of quality in coffee as well. Make sure that the water you go with packs a number of minerals; the taste of the beverage you create will be better for it.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, you may want to decorate coffee as well. Believe it or not, skilled baristas are able to utilize milk, slowly pouring it onto a caffeinated beverage for the sake of giving the beverage itself a more unique appearance. While the pattern may not last long - such is the way of certain ingredients - it's an interesting touch all the same. Those who are building to build their skills, in the culinary arts, should recognize this.

If you want to create stronger, as well as better tasting, coffee, it's clear that there are numerous factors to know about. Those who are skilled in the culinary arts should make note of these, especially if their desire is to improve over the course of time. Keep in mind that you do not have to limit yourself. Coffee is as broad a culinary topic as any other. It's just a matter of improving your skills, and the points mentioned earlier will prove useful in that regard.

Children With Delays In Communication Skills Are Helped By Social Thinking Therapists In Houston, TX

By Lelia Hall

Everyone participates in this type of thinking on a daily basis. It simply means we consider the ways in which we interact with others. There are social thinking therapists in Houston, TX and other locations who practice this type of therapy to assist people in improving communicative skills.

As one individual interacts with another, their emotions and intentions are communicated to us in unspoken ways. Usually communication senses are developed from birth and throughout a lifetime. Not all people are fortunate enough to develop these senses in a natural way. There is no correlation between the level of intelligence and the ability to communicate successfully.

Therapists in the field work to help delayed children acquire the ability to recognize many of the unspoken ways people communicate their feelings to each other. The child with ADHD and Aspergers syndrome falls into this category. Methods now exist to teach these abilities to children and help them understand how social impressions are perceived.

Research has been done and the successful use of ILAUGH therapy to develop societal thinking in those who lack it has worked. The neurotypical children who develop it naturally were studied to determine how it might be implemented in those with normal and above normal IQ, but fail to develop it. This methodology was created.

A baby is already acquiring the skills needed to learn language and communication. By the time they are toddlers, they start to develop socially. The more a child talks to others the more aware he is about how other individuals think.

At the age of four years the neurotypical child, the child who learns this awareness naturally, exhibits an understanding of what other children think. Two years after that, he knows that people can have bad characteristics. Manipulation of others will also become part of his repertoire.

This ability seems to be mandatory if the child is to learn problem solving, how to interpret communicative intent and reading comprehension as well. Abstract communal language and interpreting the meaning of communication are essential for academic success. These abilities do not develop in the child with autism or a learning disorder.

He requires more direct teaching methods. It is not easy for him to become aware that everyone thinks about the thoughts and feelings of others. He must learn to recognize that fact.

One societal skill is recognizing the value of making eye contact as you speak to others. If this is not done, it gives the appearance of dishonesty or shiftiness. Therapists have researched how the neurotypical child learns this societal skill.

The ILAUGH Model of thinking has been developed as a therapeutic tool. It is used by parents as well as therapists. All who are concerned put the emphasis on the childs strongest abilities and reinforce and expand on them.

The child can be helped to comprehend the way societal skills and understanding academics are inter-related. Multitasking attempts and other abilities such as perception are encouraged. The student lacking in these skills will talk copiously about himself. However, he will have a problem asking for directions when he does not understand something.
