Important Facts About The Amazing Arapahoe Nation

Arapahoes are known as members of the Native American people. They formerly inhabit eastern Colorado and southeast Wyoming. Traditional Arapahoe life was always based in hunting, particularly buffaloes. These people are close allies of the Cheyenne and are loosely aligned with Dakota and Lakota.

It is known that Arapaho tribes of today are grouped in two. The Arapahoe Nation is mainly grouped with the Northern Arapahoes and the southern ones. Northern Arapahoes live on a reservation. The land belongs to the tribe. It is even under control by them. Southern Arapahoes mainly live on a trust land. These tribes obtain their own government, policies, services and laws. The tribes are part of the nation as US citizens. They are not exempted from the American law.

Arapahoe children are not distant from the city kids. They do things that are done by the city children. Children always love to play but what makes Arapahoe kids contrasting from the city ones is they spend more of their time working inside their homes by following orders and commands from their parents than to play outside. These children are often caught hunting and fishing with their fathers as they love to do it.

Arapaho men and women are not far from city folks. They also follow their roles as simply a man or a woman. Women are commonly in charge doing work inside the dwelling place. They prepare everything for the family. Their children help them with the household chores. What makes Arapaho women appear tougher is they are the ones who construct their homes. Men are found mostly outside their homes which is why women are assigned to drag heavy and long posts to build their house.

On the other hand, women are appointed to do home obligations. They spend most of their time working inside their homes such as cooking and doing household chores. Mothers are always aided by their children in doing household chores. But what stimulates these women to look more stronger is they can drag extremely heavy posts to create their homes. Women are actually the ones assigned in constructing a home.

The home of the tribe looks pretty different from city homes. Their homes look like tents. They call these houses tipis. Though tipis look simple yet they are designed enough to set and break easily. They prefer to live in a home like this so it will be easier for them to move and travel from a certain place to another.

Arapahoe clothing looks tribal. They do not wear modern tees, jeans or sneakers. Women wore split skirts and buckskin dresses. Men wore leggings and breech cloth. Traditional shirts are designed with beads, rows of elk teeth, or porcupine quills. For their shoes, they do not wear sneakers but they call their footwear moccasins.

For transportation, cars and other engine automobiles are not common to them. They even do not use boats for travel since they travel more on land. What they use for transportation are dogs pulling travois. Travois is a kind of sled. They use the sleds to carry their belongings easily. But when they were introduced with horses, the tribes then have made their ways in becoming great riders even in greater distances.

Arapahoes are truly rich in history. The people are even known to be extraordinary artists as they are fully furnished with embroidery and bead work. Each of the story made by their elders are still told until today particularly to the little ones. Their tales are all full of fantasies and legends.
