Some of the books are personal experiences while others are narrations of the actions and experiences of care givers. The terminal illness books will take you through the mind of the patient or help you handle your relative or friend better.

The Fault In Our Stars- this is an amazing story by John Green about a teenage girl who has been diagnosed with cancer. She enlists into a support group that is made up of terminally ill teenagers. The book traces the lives of other teenagers battling different conditions. They love and social lives are intriguing.

My Sisters Keeper- Randy Pausch focuses on the reaction of a person when he learns that he is terminally ill. A lot goes through the mind at that point leading to anxiety and abrupt decisions. As a caregiver, spouse, friend or guardian, these are very crucial observations to make. The book is thus very resourceful if such a patient is under your care.

Before I Die- the news that you are terminally ill comes with the impression that your days are numbered. Jenny Downham narrates how the main character pens a To DO Before I Die List after realizing that she only has a few months left. Top on that list is sex. The list exposes her to wonderful experiences that re-energize her failing body. It will help you understand the final moments.

Deadline- The final year meant a lot for Ben Wolf and he has big plans. A terminal disease causes him to change his plans and become everything he ever wanted within a year. His plan is to be cheeky during civics class, save a drunken friend and be the best footballer. He plans to do this in secret, but as he will learn, other people have secrets too.

Me and the Earl and the Racing Girl- this is the work of Jesse Andrews. It features a high school espionage master called Greg Gaines. His secret escapades are only known to and done with Earl. His mother forces him back with Rachel, a girl diagnosed with leukemia. Rachel gives up on treatment and the plan for Jesse and his friend is to make a movie out of her life. It is rated as the worst ever release. Their lives change for good and Greg has to deal with being on the lime light.

Ruin- Michals has been warned that he can do nothing to change the situation of a terminally ill friend. She is used to depression and no trick by Michals will change a thing. This is the mentality those who interact with such patients have. Rachel van Dyken exposes the conflict that arises out of such an approach and the damage it causes.

Death of a Super Hero- Antony McCarten narrates the story of Donald, a teenager who turns violent because of his condition. His obsession with sex, music and drugs worries his parents and teachers. They wish he can fight his battles without escapism. While the parents hope that the psychologist will offer a solution, he becomes a victim in need of salvation.
