The creation of Joint Technical Committee on Information Technology (JTC1) which gathered the material competence held by the CIS and the software expertise held by ISOS. JTC is the producer of most of Informatics on standards. ISOS is divided into about 200 technical committees (TC), each responsible for a particular area (ISO 9001 consulting services). In 1990s, under pressure from the rapid development of information technology, ISOS relaxed the standards development process, taking into account the activity of consortia, which we considered that it was not a threat against the official standardization system.

Plaka (PLACO - Planning Committee) prepares proposals for planning the work of ISOS to organize and coordinate the technical aspects of work. The scope of work includes the Plaka consideration of proposals for the creation and dissolution of technical committees, the definition of field of standardization, which should be dealt with by the Committee.

The Soviet Union was one of founders of organization, a permanent member of governing bodies, the representative of State Standard of twice elected president of organization. Russia became a member as a successor to USSR. September 23, 2005 Russia joined the Council. When creating the organization and the choice of its name taken into account the need for the acronym names sound the same in all languages. To do this, it was decided to use the Greek word - equal, which is why in all the languages of world International Organization for Standardization is the short name "ISOS".

CASCO together with IEC produced a number of guides on various aspects of certification, which are widely used in member countries of ISOS and IEC: the principles set out in these documents are taken into account in national certification systems, as well as serve as a basis for agreements on conformity assessment of products in trade of mutually - links of different regions.

The ISA is very active in 1930s, has unfortunately cease trading at the beginning of World War II. In 1928, the AESC is named after American Standards Association (ASA). From the beginning of World War II, ASA develops military standards (War Standard Procedure) to oversee US production as part of war effort (this is referred to "military standard"). In 1946, just after the end of World War II, ASA, AFNOR and British Standards Institute (BSI) in London involved with standards organizations of 22 countries in creation of International Organization for Standardization (ISOS). It was officially founded February 23, 1947.

The main functions of DEVCO: the organization of discussions on a wide scale all aspects of standardization in developing countries, creating the conditions for the exchange of experiences with developed countries; training on standardization on the basis of various training centers in developed countries; promoting study tours specialists standardization bodies in developing countries; training manuals on standardization to developing countries; encourage the development of bilateral cooperation industrialized and developing countries in field of standardization and metrology.

Agreements have been made with the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) to create a kind of pact of "non-aggression" between the two competing entities and avoid redundant standards. ISOS cooperates with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), responsible for standardization of electrical equipment. The most important concrete evidence of this cooperation was in mid-1980s.
